Kinetic Element s a symphonic style progressive rock band out of Richmond VA. They are a sextet in the vein of Yes, early Genesis, the Moody Blues and Pink Floyd, but have their own style. Their lineup is made up of: MIKE VISAGGIO playing multi-keyboards and vocals, MICHAEL MURRAY on drums and vocals, TODD RUSSELL on guitar
GEORGE DeCOLA on ead vocals, keyboard and guitar, MELANIE DeCOLA on harmony vocals and percussion and LEN DUPILKA on fretless bass.
Kinetic Element was formed to perform the music of Mike Visaggio's solo CD, "Starship Universe" which was released in 2006. Since then they have assembled a repertoire of that entire CD, plus selected classic prog and classic rock covers and their new prog pieces they have put together since they formed which comprise "Powered By Light," which was recorded during the summer of 2009 and released on Sept. 5, 2009. It was nominated for Best Debut CD of 2009 by The Prog Awards.
The catalyst that brought them together was Mike's selection to perform at the Pop Montreal Festival in 2006. At the time they were a keyboards/bass/drums trio. Although they were unable to be ready in time, the band was selected again and did perform that festival at Le Divan Orange club in Montreal on Oct. 6, 2007. They have performed at the Prog Night Show in Atlantic City, Kenny's Castaways in New York, The Grog and Tankard in Washington, the Capital Ale House Music Hall in Richmond, and the Artomatic Arts Festival in Arlington VA, Orion Studios in Baltimore (twice), and a headline show at The Magic Room in Boston, among other venues in Richmond and Charlottesville VA. They were invited to support established prog rock acts Circa, Izz, Ephemeral Sun and Rare Blend in 2008. In 2009 they supported Nektar and Morglbl; in 2010 they supported Edensong as a trio comprised of Mike, Michael and Todd while searching for the members to round out the band, which culminated in their finding Len, George and Melanie.
Mike's solo CD received more than 30 reviews from around the prog rock world, of which the overwhelming majority have been positive. The many online prog magazine reviews of "Powered by Light" have all been positive. The band was featured in Progression Magazine #59. Their unique style is a blend of the prog, classic rock, blues and jazz of keyboardist/vocalist Mike Visaggio, the classic rock drumming of Michael Murray, the classical/jazz influenced stylings of guitarist Todd Russell, and now the dynamic vocal performance of George DeCola and the deeply resonant fretless bass playing of Len Dupilka.
